OUR PROJECTS
Our constant quest is to create spaces to live in that work for a contemporary life style. We all crave more light and well thought out areas. At Ginger & Wood we have witnessed over time an increasingly difficult planning process, often the best way of achieving interesting architecture and interiors is by the re-imagining of sometimes very mundane buildings, not always new builds. We love this aspect and revel in each challenge as transformations can be inspiring. We have a huge body of work and below are examples of only a handful, we are showing quite a few modest extensions as these more affordable additions can make a huge difference to peoples lives. The photos have been taken on a humble IPad.

Timber Ancillary Buildings
1960's Bungalow, Re-imagined, York

Re-modeling and extending of estate bungalow to create 2 large satellite bedrooms with dedicated bathrooms. The pitched roof extension mirrors the existing bungalow footprint and houses a large bedroom and en suite to the first floor over a large garage/hobby space. Most of the internal walls of the original bungalow were removed with one large steel inserted to pick up the roof structure and gallery/office to the new first floor. The ground floor is now a social space combining kitchen/dining and living areas with a separate utility room. A new flat roof extension houses the second bedroom and bathroom. The building has been insulated to a high level and provides low running costs. The larch cladding will silver up over time and was chosen to naturalise the building in its environment whilst creating a low key garden pavilion feel. completed 2025, design, planning and building regulations.
